Growing up in a funeral family
You could say funeral directing is in the blood of Hope and Sons current owners and operators, Michael and Lyndon. When you are raised in and around funerals, death becomes a normal part of life, not unexpected. Their dads, Ian and Brian, always talked about the funerals they were directing and who they were helping at the moment. Both Michael and Lyndon remember going to work with their dads as youngsters, helping to wash cars and playing with the casket trolleys. As they grew older they helped during the school holidays, with duties such as trimming caskets and again washing the company cars, and later driving and helping at funerals. Michael continued to work in the family business during his university holidays. All these experiences gave Michael and Lyndon a good grounding in the ethics and responsibilities of being a funeral director, and an appreciation of all the ideals that have made the Hope family firm what it is today.
